LAB GROWN DIAMONDS (LGD) A laboratory-grown diamond (LGD), also referred to as a lab-created diamond, or cultured diamond are authentic diamonds created in a controlled environment.
PRODUCTION METHOD 1 The High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) technique, which replicates the natural conditions under which diamonds form in the Earth. HPHT simulates a miniature version of the Earth's mantle. During a span of two months, the seeds are subjected to a sequence of processes that expose them to exceptionally high pressures and temperatures, reaching as much as 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit. In this process, pure carbon is transformed into diamond with the assistance of a metal catalyst, which enhances the seeds. Interestingly, HPHT technology can also be utilized to enhance the vibrancy of a natural diamond.
PRODUCTION METHOD 2 The Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method. Hydrogen and methane gases are subjected to extremely high temperatures, transforming them into plasma. This plasma then deposits minute carbon particles onto a diamond seed in a manner reminiscent of Salt Bae, ultimately facilitating the growth of a diamond.
Both techniques initiate with a pure carbon seed arranged in a crystalline configuration, ultimately resulting in a lab-grown diamond that is indistinguishable from a mined diamond.
